BfS certified as a family-friendly authority
Year of issue 2022
Date 2022.06.21
Date 2022.06.21
The Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) has been awarded the Career and Family Audit Certificate for its commitment to the compatibility of family and work. The formal handover took place on 21 June 2022 during an online ceremony.
The certification was preceded by an audit process in which the existing offers and measures for family-friendly working conditions were reviewed and possibilities for their expansion and further development were identified.
Improving the compatibility of work and family life
"The compatibility of work, family, and private life and career is a high priority for the Federal Office for Radiation Protection – and we want to become even better. The audit supports us in our continuous development"
, says BfS President Inge Paulini.
"The Federal Office for Radiation Protection deliberately defines the term 'family' broadly. We support all forms in which people take responsibility for each other in their private lives."
Individual design options
With flexitime, various part-time models, and remote working solutions, the BfS makes it possible to individually adapt working time and place to personal life situations.
Support in difficult professional and personal phases is provided by a company social counselling service as well as a family service. The occupational health management of the BfS offers prevention and health promotion services for employees.
More flexibility in working hours and place of work

For the coming years, the BfS is planning, among other things, to make working hours and place of work even more flexible. Existing information and counselling services are to be expanded. Likewise, it is being examined whether the administrative processes associated with family leave can be made more employee-friendly. The agenda also includes raising awareness within the authorities and providing more support for family-conscious leadership.
Career and Family Audit
The Career and Family Audit is based on an initiative of the non-profit Hertie Foundation. As a strategic management tool, the audit supports employers in shaping their human resources policy in a family- and life-phase-conscious way.
