Is X-radiation harmful?

For higher doses (above about 50 to 100 mSv) it has been demonstrated that X-radiation can cause malignant diseases (cancer) or damage in the unborn child. The probability of these effects depends on dose. Radiation risk, however, is also influenced by other factors, such as the age at X-ray procedure. The radiation risk of cancer decreases significantly with increasing age.
