TIMER: PIANOFORTE Training course on Internal Monitoring and Emergency Response
TIMER Training course: July 1st-5th in Berlin
The course is addressed to PhD students as well as early-career researchers and other professionals who work in one single of the following fields:
- monitoring of internal exposures (direct measurements or measurements of biological samples)
- response to radiological emergencies
The course is planned with 15 to 20 participants. Application is open to persons from member states of the European Union and its associated countries. A small number of places can be assigned to applicants from other regions. A sufficient command of English is required (at least B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
Key dates
- March 15: Extended deadline for registration
- March 22th Invitation sent to participation, possibly dependent on approval of a travel grant
- July 1st-5th TIMER Training course
BfS will host an international training course on internal monitoring and emergency response in July 2024 at its Berlin office. Young scientists and practitioners from either the field of internal monitoring or radiological emergency response are invited to register. The course will combine the theoretical background with practical demonstrations and exercises, presented by various international experts.
Aim
Internal monitoring after radiological emergencies requires specific organisational procedures and metrological methods as compared to its application for occupational exposures:
- measurements of a large number of persons must be organised, a possible external contamination of the persons must be taken into account,
- higher activities in the body or in the excreta must be expected,
- worried persons must be attended to etc.
The course will present all topics that professionals with some existing knowledge about internal monitoring or emergency response need in order to organise and/or conduct such measurements themselves.
Audience
The course is addressed to PhD students as well as early-career researchers and other professionals who work in one single of the following fields:
- monitoring of internal exposures (direct measurements or measurements of biological samples)
- response to radiological emergencies
Early-career researchers and other professionals are eligible when they have completed their study or professional education not more than 7 years ago. Application is open to persons from member states of the European Union and its associated countries. However, a small number of places can be assigned to applicants from other regions. The course is planned with 15 to 20 participants. A sufficient command of English is required (at least B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
Lecturers
All lectures, teamwork and practical work will be directed by experts from BfS (Germany), IRSN (France) and CIEMAT (Spain), who are experienced in their field. Many of them are involved in current national and international developments in the response to radiological and nuclear emergencies.
