Meetings and conferences

On this page you will find the event reports from the technical discussions held in the EMF Competence Center on various topics in the area of electromagnetic fields.

Expert discussion of the mechanisms of action of electric, magnetic, and electromagnetic fields on biological systems – from molecular dynamics simulations to experiments

Between 23 and 25 May 2022, experts from around the world gathered in Munich, Germany, to discuss how electric and magnetic fields (e.g. those from power supplies) and electromagnetic fields (e.g. those from mobile phones) affect cells, organs, and other biological systems. Further information and the results of the expert discussion can be found here.

International workshop on the influence of electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields on oxidative stress

From 16 to 18 February 2022, a BfS-organised international workshop on the possible effects of static, low-frequency and high-frequency fields on oxidative stress was held in Cottbus. The workshop's conclusion was that there is currently no reliable indication that electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields lead to increased oxidative stress.

International workshop on the influence of electric, magnetic, and electromagnetic fields on the living environment

The living environment – this includes animals, plants, and ecosystems – is also exposed to electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields. It is assumed that the limit values established to protect humans also provide sufficient protection for the environment. However, fields could also exert effects via perception or depending on the body size of the animals.
