occupationally exposed personsShow / Hide

According to the provisions of the Radiation Protection Ordinance (StrlSchV) persons are considered occupationally exposed to radiation when they are exposed to radiation while pursuing their profession or being trained and when the dose limit values set out in the provisions of the Radiation Protection Ordinance are exceeded in that case. Two groups of occupationally exposed persons are differentiated.

  • Persons of category A when the radiation exposure in the calendar year may lead to a body dose above 30% of the dose limit values set out in the StrlSchV.
  • Persons of category B when the radiation exposure in the calendar year may lead to a body dose between 5% and 10% and 30% of the dose limit values set out in the StrlSchV.

For occupationally exposed persons under age 18 and the unborn child who is exposed to radiation on account of the mother’s occupation lower dose limit values apply.

Odds Ratio (OR)Show / Hide

The Odds Ratio gives the radio with which "cases" are exposed relatively to controls.

  • With an OR of 1 the part of exposed persons in both groups has been equal.
  • With OR less than 1 the part of exposed persons under the cases was less, with OR higher than 1 more than under the controls.

By means of a significance test one can check how statistically important this difference is. For rare diseases the OR can be set equal to the RR.
