War of aggression against Ukraine heightens awareness of radiation protection

Almost half of people in Germany trust that the state will protect them in the event of an accident at a nuclear power plant, and clarification is needed as to what action the general public should take in the event of such an accident. These are the findings of the study "What does Germany think about radiation?".

Foundation stone laid for new building at BfS site in Berlin

The BfS is to receive a new building in Berlin-Karlshorst, complete with a situation room for radiological emergency preparedness. The foundation stone for the new office and laboratory complex was laid in the presence of Stefan Tidow, Environment State Secretary and BfS President Inge Paulini.

Ionising radiation Wild mushrooms still partly contaminated with radioactive caesium

Wild mushrooms in southern Germany can still be contaminated with radioactive caesium above the limit value. This can be seen in the current mushroom report of the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) for which the levels of caesium-137 in edible wild mushrooms are investigated on an annual basis.

BfS certified as a family-friendly authority

The Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) has been awarded the Career and Family Audit Certificate for its commitment to the compatibility of family and work. The formal handover took place on 21 June 2022 during an online ceremony.
