Students
Are you studying science and interested in radiation protection? The BfS offers various possibilities to deepen your interest and thus to shape your career. You can apply for an internship at the BfS or write your thesis. Come to one of our public events and use the opportunity to get information about BfS topics and make first contacts.
Internship at the BfS?Show / Hide
We support interns in preparing themselves for their future occupation in the course of their studies and supplementing their theoretical knowledge with practical experience ("mandatory internships").
Interns can gain insight into different areas of work of the Federal Office and deal with a topic on their own responsibility during the internship. This includes both practical work and participation in BfS events (e.g. technical discussions, information events).
Internships are made available within the scope of our capacities.

Microscopy and information at the BfS info booth
The Federal Office for Radiation Protection participates in various events, such as the Munich Science Days, the Long Night of Science in Berlin or the European Researchers Day.
Or attend a scientific presentation at our locations in Berlin or Munich.
Visit our events page for dates and topics of upcoming events.
Your thesis on a radiation protection topicShow / Hide
Students can work on a problem or a question from a scientific field independently and in a result-oriented manner when writing their thesis at the BfS. We provide a budget to pay students.
In this case, a good cooperation between the university and the BfS, in particular the BfS supervisor, is essential.
BfS provides supervision and support in the form of professional support in dealing with a topic and assistance with literature research and problem solving. We would be very pleased if the results of this work could be presented in the framework of a BfS colloquium.
If you are interested, please contact us.
Your doctoral thesis at the BfSShow / Hide
The BfS research activities create the basis and decision-making aids for the appropriate processing and perception of current and future tasks and for policy advice. In this context, BfS endeavours to regularly advertise positions for doctoral students and postdocs. The topics to be dealt with are determined in advance by way of an in-house competition.
Please find here more information on current positions for doctoral students and postdocs.
