This is how we work

We have defined a Guiding Principle which is the basis for our work at the Federal Office for Radiation Protection. Leadership positions are subject to special rules. Good scientific work and offering equal opportunities are of central importance to the Office.

Guiding Principle

Our Guiding Principle describes the principles and objectives of the BfS work that have been developed and sustained by the BfS staff. It provides orientation and helps achieve pre-set targets. It states our tasks and describes our principles. The Guiding Principle formulates criteria for the structure of the organisation as well as for the contact with each other and with external partners.

Digitalisation at the BfS

Digitalisation is one of the key challenges for the federal administration as it seeks to equip itself for the future. At the BfS, we see digitalisation as a comprehensive and transformative task that affects all areas of our work.

Versuchsaufbau

Research concept

The Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) works to ensure the safety and protection of people and the environment from harm caused by ionising and non-ionising radiation. We are an independent scientific and technical authority in the portfolio of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV). When performing our tasks, we act within the framework of the technical and legal supervision of the BMUV.

Jobs at the BfS

The variety of tasks performed at the BfS ranges from X-ray diagnostics in medicine, safety in handling radioactive substances in nuclear technology, the disposal of radioactive waste, via the protection against increased natural radioactivity to the protection against ultraviolet radiation and the effects of mobile communication.

Das Bundespersonalvertretungsgesetz

Federal administrative bodies, including the BfS, have staff representatives according to the Federal Staff Representation Act.
