Environmental management

For us, it is a matter of course to carry out our activities in an environmentally conscious and energy-saving manner and to use natural resources efficiently. As an authority within the scope of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV), we also have a duty to lead by example by "acting sustainably" on a daily basis.

It is therefore a natural step for us to participate in the Environmental Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) and to contribute to the continual improvement of environmental protection at the highest possible level. With our EMAS-certified environmental management system, we also meet the requirements of the Federal Government to specifically implement sustainability in administrative action.

Our environmental management system according to EMAS is wholeheartedly supported by our employees. The success of our environmental management system depends largely on our employees, who take the initiative and are highly committed to environmental protection at the BfS and develop ideas and solutions so that we can continually improve together.

Environmental management system and reporting

In November 2021, the BfS was honoured as a participant in the European Environmental Management System EMAS for the Berlin, Freiburg, Munich, Salzgitter, and Rendsburg sites. With our participation in the EMAS, we want to make it clear that sustainability is lived at BfS – regardless of location and daily work routine.

In addition to the support of our "Environmental Management Working Group", which is open to all employees, it is primarily thanks to the initiative and commitment of many employees to participate in environmental protection that we have been able to achieve our environmental goals.

Environmental guidelines

The environmental guidelines describe the environmentally relevant principles and objectives developed and supported by the BfS. Taking into account the mission statement of the BfS, these are intended to provide orientation and assistance for environmentally sound behaviour within the framework of fulfilling our statutory mandate.
