Statement by the Federal Office for Radiation Protection on the KiKK Study
On behalf of BfS, the German Childhood Cancer Registry in Mainz carried out an epidemiological study about childhood cancer in the vicinity of nuclear power plants, in short KiKK study, which was published in December 2007. Subsequent to the publication, the Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety charged the Commission on Radiological Protection with the evaluation of the study. In September 2008, the Commission on Radiological Protection submitted its statement. In February 2009, the Commission on Radiological Protection presented a substantiation of its statement to the scientific community.

After having evaluated the Commission on Radiological Protection's statement and taking into account the statement of the expert body accompanying the study and acknowledging the previous specialist discussions on the KiKK study, the Federal Office for Radiation Protection now submits its statement.
