Phase out the use of nuclear energy

Nuclear power plant EmslandIn Germany the use of nuclear energy for commercial electricity generation is limited – in stages – until the end of 2022.

The end of the individual power plants’ operating times is laid down in the Atomic Energy Act. After the final shutdown of a nuclear power plant the post-operational phase follows during which works to prepare decommissioning are carried out.
 
Operating times
 
On 6 August 2011 the operating licence for eight nuclear power plants was withdrawn. In each case one of the remaining nuclear power plants in operation shall be shut down at the end of the year 2015, 2017 and 2019, respectively. At the end of the year 2021 further three nuclear power plants will follow and finally at the end of the year 2022 the last nuclear power plants will be shut down. more...
