The BfS rejects statements of Robin Wood
The Federal Office for Radiation Protection has today rejected statements made by Robin Wood on the decommissioning procedure in Morsleben. "It is not sufficient to obtain a hearing with text modules from other procedures. One rather needs to bother and grapple with the facts,” a BfS spokesman said today in Salzgitter. That applies in particular to a nuclear law plan-approval procedure as is being carried out in Morsleben. Several options were examined for the decommissioning BfS applied for and additionally the proof of long-term safety has been furnished prior to the ongoing publication of the application documents. Robin Wood had stated that it was irresponsible to backfill the mine with concrete “without further examination including of the waste stored there”. Furthermore it was stated that “the safest not the cheapest solution” should be used. The BfS spokesman: “This statement is absurd: The examined options are oriented to safety and not to costs.”

Moreover the BfS rejects the statement of Robin Wood that the BfS should "finally” publish expert reports on Morsleben which had not been published so far. As an example of allegedly not published expert reports the organisation names an examination of retrievability. The BfS has actually published the study “Evaluation of the retrievability of the radioactive waste stored in the ERAM", which is easily accessible in the internet. In addition, more than 100 other documents are publicly accessible. „Robin Wood should clarify the facts and have a look at the information offered prior to spreading false pretences," the BfS spokesman said. Not only has the BfS published the application documents in the internet but far beyond this also comprehensive documents and information material intelligible to all so that every interested person can get an idea of Morsleben and the decommissioning applied for.

Since 22 October the documents relating to the decommissioning of Morsleben applied for by the BfS have been laid out for public inspection. Already before the documents were laid out the BfS had published copies of the documents in the internet. That goes far beyond the practice applied in other plan-approval procedures where publication in the internet is not provided for. Besides it should be mentioned that the documents in such a procedure are laid out by the respective licensing authority. The licensing authority is in this case the Land Saxony-Anhalt. “However, we will not let us keep from continuing to make the planned procedure a transparent one,” the spokesman emphasised.
