Digital Radio of Security Authorities and Organisations
Security authorities and organisations as, for example, police forces, fire brigades and rescue services operate a radio network of their own which is strictly separated from other radio networks. At present a trunked radio system network is set up in many European countries using digital signal transmission according to the standard TETRA.

Basic Principles

Security authorities and organisations operate a radio network of their own strictly separated from other radio networks. For the existing analogue networks single frequency bands in the frequency range between 70 and 450 Megahertz are used where radio and television broadcasting are located as well. The terrestrial trunked radio system network currently being set up in many European countries operates at the standard TETRA and is comparable to GSM networks regarding structure and technical parameters. In Germany construction of the network has started and will probably be completed until the end of 2012. The Federal Agency for Digital Radio of Security Authorities and Organisations (BDBOS) is responsible for set up, operation and operability of the radio system (full text in German only).

Examinations on Health Effects of TETRA

For the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) safety of the population and of the professional users is most important when the new digital voice and data communication system for security authorities is set up and operated. Since results of the German Mobile Telecommunication Research Programme (DMF) can only restrictedly be transferred to the TETRA radio system BfS concluded an agreement with the Federal Agency for Digital Radio of Security Authorities and Organisations (BDBOS) on a co-operation regarding health impact of BOS digital radio network. Co-operation of BfS with BDBOS

The Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) concluded an agreement with the Federal Agency for Digital Radio of Security Authorities and Organisations (BDBOS). It is the aim of this agreement to pay adequate attention to basic requirements of radiation protection and to information and risk communication when setting up the new digital voice and data communication system for security authorities. The implementation of research projects is the main focus of the agreement. Further elements are exchange of information and experiences regarding radiation protection as well as information of the public and the users of the terminal equipment (full text in German only).
