Our Guiding Principles describe the principles and objectives of the work of the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) that have been worked out and sustained by its employees. They provide orientation and help to reach determined goals. They describe our tasks and principles. The Guiding Principles formulate rules for the structuring of the organisation as well as for the contact with each other and with external partners.

This page provides an overview of the various offices staffed by the Federal Office for Radiation Protection and their different locations within Germany.
The headquarters of the BfS are in Salzgitter; other specialist divisions are based in Berlin, Neuherberg near Munich, Bonn and Freiburg. This page contains the exact location of the offices with maps and directions on how to find them.

Organisational Structure of BfS

The organisational structure of the BfS has been depicted in an organisational chart providing information about the organisational units of the BfS and their allocation of tasks. The BfS takes important decisions in terms of human resources and organisation only with the consent of the Federal Environment Ministry (BMU). Details have been regulated by the BMU in a delegation decree.

An dieser Stelle erhalten Sie einen Überblick über Ihre Möglichkeiten, einen Antrag im Rahmen des Umweltinformationsgesetzes (UIG) an das BfS zu stellen. Der Überblick enhält auch Hinweise auf den genauen Ablauf des Antragsverfahrens. The German Council of Science and Humanities ("Science Council") published its report "Implementation of the recommendations based on the Council’s earlier evaluation of the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS), Salzgitter " on 15 November 2010. Through the statement and the decision of the Council, the BfS is strengthened in its opinion that it is on the right way regarding the advancement of its research efforts.

Bilanz 1998-2006 und Bericht der Arbeitsgruppe "Modernisierung des Bundesamtes für Strahlenschutz"

 Veränderte politische Rahmenbedingungen in Deutschland, neue wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse sowie eine global angespannte Sicherheitslage haben in den vergangenen Jahren neue Herausforderungen für das BfS geschaffen. Die vorliegende Broschüre dokumentiert im ersten Teil die zentralen Aspekte, denen sich das BfS vor diesem Hintergrund im Zeitraum von 1998 bis 2006 gestellt hat. Im zweiten Teil findet sich der Bericht der von Bundesumweltminister Sigmar Gabriel und von BfS-Präsident Wolfram König beauftragten Expertengruppe, welche die Aufgaben des Bundesamtes und seine dafür eingerichtete Organisationsform bewertet hat.
