With effect from 28 June 2010, the nuclear power plant operator RWE Power AG has transferred a residual electricity volume of 8,100 gigawatt hours (GWh) from the decommissioned Mülheim-Kärlich NPP (KMK) to the Biblis B NPP. Thus, on 30 June 2010 the residual electricity volume is now 13,989 GWh instead of previously 5,889 GWh. RWE Power has reported the transfer to the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS).
In the course of the nuclear consensus, residual electricity volumes were laid down for all nuclear power plants in the Atomic Energy Act in 2002. One also provided for the possibility of transferring electricity volumes from older to newer nuclear power plants without approval of the authorities.
For the decommissioned Mülheim-Kärlich NPP (KMK), it was decided that an electricity volume of 107,250 GWh may be transferred to the nuclear power plants Emsland, Neckarwestheim 2, Isar 2, Brokdorf, Gundremmingen B and C and up to an electricity volume of 21,450 GWh to the Biblis B NPP. This transfer does not require approval of the authorities. Electricity volumes of the decommissioned Stade NPP were already transferred to the Biblis A NPP in May 2010.
Transfers of electricity volumes need to be reported to the Federal Office for Radiation Protection. The BfS documents and publishes the remaining residual electricity volumes of the individual nuclear power plants and publishes them regularly in the Bundesanzeiger.
