Does radiation cause diseases?
Experts of the Federal Office for Radiation Protection provide information at the International Radio Exhibition (IFA) in Berlin
Be it mobile phones, cordless phones or WLAN – there's radiation in all areas of everyday life. As to what effects it can have on man and how it can be measured, the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) provides information at the International Radio Exhibition (IFA), taking place in Berlin September 3-8. As every year, the exhibition will showcase many technical innovations and wireless networks.

According to the present state of scientific knowledge, there is no danger to human health below the currently existing limits for electromagnetic fields. However, the BfS still sees open questions with regard to long-term effects of the use of mobile phones and the effects of electromagnetic fields on children and adolescents. Therefore, by way of precaution, the BfS recommends to reduce exposure to radiation in everyday life. In Hall 9, the BfS experts provide practical advice on how to deal with electromagnetic radiation in everyday life. At the stand, visitors can also measure the radiation intensity of their own mobile phone. The BfS experts have devices which can be used to monitor and analyse the field intensity of different electromagnetic sources. This way, visitors can get a picture of the different fields that occur at the Exhibition during a day.

The BfS staff also demonstrate whether shielding material is effective and inform about the results of the German Mobile Telecommunication Research Programme.

The BfS staff will be happy to answer questions. Interested visitors can meet them September 3-8, 10 a. m. to 6 p. m., at Stand 307, Hall 9 on the Messe Berlin Exhibition Grounds.
