Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) demands objective discussion of KiKK study results
The Federal Office for Radiation Protection has demanded an objective discussion of the KiKK study results. The study is not suitable for ideological debates, the results of the study and its consequences should now be discussed free of ideology and openly, BfS stated.

Especially the comments made by the deputy chairwoman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary party, Katherina Reiche, are not suitable for a matter-of-fact examination of the results which she herself demanded. The Federal Office for Radiation Protection has repeatedly indicated that the study offers no proof of the fact that there is a connection between the operation of a nuclear facility and an increased number of leukaemia cases (cf. press releases of December 8 and December 10, 2007).

BfS spokesman Joachim Gross also rejected statements made by Ms Reiche according to which the head of the study, Prof. Blettner, had no prior knowledge of a press conference. „In a letter on November 26, the head of the study was invited to the press conference. The German Childhood Cancer Registry (GCCR) on November 30 confirmed participation in this press conference.” On Sunday night (December 9), Ms Blettner cancelled her participation in the meeting of the panel of experts and in the subsequent press conference.
