BfS research programme 2013-2017

The Radiation Protection Research Programme describes the medium term research and development planning in the field of radiation protection for 2013 to 2017.

The research and development activities assumed by the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) create the scientific basis upon which the BfS performs its assigned tasks in accordance with the state of science. Consequently, the strategic objectives are as follows:

  • To analyse and evaluate radiation exposures and risks which vary or have not yet been sufficiently investigated.
  • To establish a sound basis for prevention of future, and management of already existing exposures (e.g. radon indoors) to elevated levels of radiation.
  • To work out measures against accidental radiation exposures.

The implementation of these objectives also involves references made to the activities in the field of nuclear safety and nuclear waste management.

Specific projects are deduced from the Research Programme which have to be worked on within the scope of in-house research or by external research contractors. The Research Programme is updated regularly.
